Dhs1 Million a day

Dubai Police collected almost dhs1 million every day in fines from traffic cameras last month. More than 108,000 motorists were caught on camera breaking traffic laws last month alone – the highest number on record for a single month.

Dubai Police used 2,080 films on the 108,031 violations in February, they said. That works out to more than dhs21.7 million in fines, or almost dhs1 million every day.
Almost one person died every day on Dubai’s roads last month. Nearly all the violations were for speeding, which carries a fine of dhs200.

Jumping a red light accounted for 180 violations, which carries a fine of dhs500. And 663 motorists were caught driving recklessly, which carries a fine of dhs400.

“It’s a big increase in violations – it’s breaking the record,” said Al-Mutasem Bellah, a spokesman for Dubai Police.

Captain Abdula Obaid said the police plan to increase the number of cameras on roads known for high speeds and serious accidents – like Sheikh Zayed and Emirates roads.

The money from fines goes to Dubai’s courts, which is then passed on to the government, according to police. From January 1 to February 26 – a total of just 57 days – 49 people died on Dubai’s roads.

The UAE has some of the worst drivers in the world despite having an excellent road network and relatively new and well maintained vehicles,” said Dr Prabhakar Rao of the International Association of Human Values, an arm of the UN.

Its time we should start opening our own police station business and set up cameras on roadsides. Cash will flow inward itself. No tension, No hard working.

Plus the statement given by Dr Prabhakar Rao " The UAE has some of the worst drivers...." is total wrong. Search throughout the world, but you can never get natural professional drivers like the ones here in Emirates. Where on earth do you find a Nissan Patrol sideways on two wheels? Where else on earth can you find the most slowest car moving like a rocket on the road. Where on earth can you cover a 150 km distance in less than 45 minutes.
Its true UAE may have the highest death rate on raods compared to any other nation, but afterall practise makes one perfect.

Ok, I'll take the bait.

What have Nissan Patrols on two wheels got to do with safe driving?

Why are we all supposed to die because some moron in a tinted 4x4 can't drive properly?

Umm, I think what he means it the claim that we're the WORST drivers is 100% opposite, cause to do that, we'd have to be the BEST drivers. Best doesn't exactly mean safe... I guess.

This blog has to be a joke.

Give way, indeed.

Traffic rules? Laws?

How am I supposed to give way to a tinted moron who undertakes at 180Km from the inside, with no warning at all?

Scum.
